A Rusair Tupolev TU-134A on behalf of Rusline, registration RA-65691 performing flight 7R-243 from Moscow Domodedovo to Petrozavodsk (Russia) with 43 passengers and 9 crew, impacted a road about 800 meters/2600 feet short of Petrozavodsk's runway 02 and burst into flames about 23:40L (19:40Z).
The aircraft came to rest in the gardens of several private homes at the outskirts of the Besovets village however without hitting the homes.
Karelia's (Petrozavodsk's) regional emergency ministry reported eight occupants were rescued alive but are in critical condition.
Russia's head emergency ministry (MCHS) confirmed 9 crew and 43 passengers. 44 occupants were killed, 8 occupants survived with injuries of varying degree (one medium severe, 6 severe and one critical/grave condition). The injured will be taken to Moscow by an IL-76 carrying 15 doctors and 5 psychologists to take care of the injured.
The local transport prosecution office reported the fires were extinguished by about 01:00Z (Jun 21st), both black boxes were recovered.
Russia's Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK) confirmed the Tupolev RA-65691 with 43 passengers and 9 crew suffered an accident on Jun 20th at 23:40L, 44 people perished in the accident, the aircraft was destroyed. The investigation into the crash has just begun, any reports about causes and circumstances are premature (addressing speculations in Russian press about a possible sudden runway lighting failure).
Other than Metars the local weather station reported fog with a visibility of 600 meters (2000 feet) starting 22:00L (18:00Z).
Petrozavodsk's runway 02/20 is 2500 meters/8200 feet long. The airport offers non-precision "2 NDB" approaches to runway 02 and 20.
